Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

  • Assess the safety and efficacy of LAA exclusion for the prevention of ischemic stroke or systemic arterial embolism in cardiac surgery patients without Afib, who are at elevated risk for these events.
  • Examine the role of sinus node sparing hybrid ablation for the treatment of drug-refractory patients with Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia (IST).
  • Discuss the safety and efficacy of Hybrid Convergent ablation for the treatment of symptomatic longstanding persistent AF who are refractory or intolerant to AADs.
  • Assess the safety and efficacy of dual epicardial and endocardial ablation in a cohort of patients presented with persistent or longstanding persistent AF.

  16. 3) Hybrid ablation is highly successful at controlling AF for up to 2 years despite long durations of AF and large LA. It is associated with a low complication rate similar to catheter ablation and improves quality of life. It particularly has a role in long-standing PSFA, large LA, and perhaps redo AF ablations where epicardial sparring may be pro-arrhythmic.
